Obereggen and the Dolomites

Pleasure hiking amid stunning mountain scenery

The mountain village of Obereggen is nestled in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites. From here, breathtaking views open up to the majestic Latemar massif, the Rosengarten, Zanggen, and the Weiß- and Schwarzhorn peaks.

The Latemar was originally a coral reef formed in the warm waters of the ancient Tethys Sea. Over the course of geological history, the reef was shaken by powerful earthquakes, tectonic uplifts, and flooding. Its porous interior collapsed – and to this day, the semicircular silhouette of the mountain range bears witness to its dramatic past.

The Latemar

The striking Latemar impresses with its bizarre limestone towers. According to an old legend, these rock formations are known as the “Latemar dolls” – a name that gives the landscape a mysterious charm.

Since 2009, these limestone peaks have been recognized as one of the most beautiful mountain landscapes in the world. This impressive backdrop delights not only hikers and mountaineers but also provides a protected habitat for many wild animals and rare plants.

Our hiking highlight

The Labyrinth Trail

The Labyrinth Trail is one of our absolute favorite routes – and for good reason. This easy hike leads along idyllic forest paths through the Karer Forest, right at the foot of the imposing northern walls of the Latemar massif.

Formed by a massive rockfall, the trail winds through a fascinating labyrinth of giant boulders. At the end of the path awaits lake Karer See – accompanied by stunning views and unforgettable moments in nature.
